We keep an area in our yard for pure functionality rather than beauty. In the very back we keep three compost bins. In the fall we have the city drop off a truck full of leaves for composting and mulching.
On average we compost a bucket of food waste every two weeks and recycle 60 gallons worth of recyclables.
Sometimes it may seem easier to throw away recyclable items like block foam. The solution? Simply Google: recycle [item] [city] [state].

...And about that BIOETHANOL
"...if the sixteen million acres now being used to grow corn...in the US became well-managed pasture, that would remove fourteen billion pounds of carbon from the atmosphere each year, the equivalent of taking four million cars off the road."
So, let's think twice about supporting Bioethanol, eh?! Or eating processed corn products such as soda and chicken mcnuggets. Oh, if corn didn't taste soo good...
or eating organic foods that has been trucked up and down the US not only to grow but to deliver.
Right: We put in a new flagstone patio in the back of our house next to our bearded irises and blood grass. Our garden benefits from left over spaghetti and other tasty grublets.
