Eddie would go

Last week I went to the Bishop Museum, and noticed a book of interest in the gift shop.
Eddie Aikau (1 2 3) occupies a place in surfing lore much like Steve Prefontaine did for track, truly legendary. Both men died young, in accidents, both men had a fire that burned brighter than anybody around them, but they never used that fire to burn anyone, both men struggled in their personal relationships, both men never had kids, both men inspired others and embodied their sport, and both men died about the same time over 25 years ago.
As I turned the first page, I noticed that my tattoo design was reflected back at me, kinda weird. This morning I surfed at the place where Eddie Aikau grew up, where he changed surfing forever, riding the biggest waves.
