In the first photo we are at cousin Chrissy's house at Christmas that's Tyson, TJ, Jenny, and me. Tj is coming to UC Davis, and is training to start doing some Ultimate Fighting matches.

Aunt Myrna's pygmy goat, Cocoa, thinks that it is a dog, it's really nice, and if you push on it's head it will back up and try and head-butt you. It is quite possibly the cutest thing ever.

The next are from a ride I did Christmas day, from Grandma's farm to Baldwin's house via the North shore. Waimano trail is located one ridge south of Uncle's house and heads up to the top o f the Ko'olau mtns. I was on the bike for 9 hours, ran of food and water, but I got a bitchin' tan.

The Manana Trail is just above Baldwin's house in Pacific Palisades. Later we went to the Ala Moana beach for sunrise surfing.

(The Aiea Loop trail, Keaiwa Heiau State Park, is shaded by a variety of Guava, Albizia, Pine, and Koa trees. Koa trees are one of the tallest trees in Hawai'i. The Koa is a protected tree and it's illegal to kill any living Koa tree. Historically the Koa tree was often used by Hawaiians to build canoes. Many canoes were built using only a single trunk.

The Flowers are of the Genus Plumeria. Although Plumeria grows abundantly in Hawaii and is used in making leis it is not indigenous. It is native to Mexico and Central America and it is used for making salves and ointments. -Janiece)

We are celebrating 5 birthdays with 5 different cakes. the birthday people are Aunt Caroline, cousin T.J., cousin Doc, Grandma (86), and Doc's wife Tracie....cake, I really like cake.

I biked the far north tip of Oahu, called Kaena point, it is only accessible by bike or foot. It is a breeding area for albatrosses and seals. A train used to run around the point to access the north shore, but it long since gone.

(Bougainvillea are commonly known as Paper Flowers and was named after the French admiral, Louis A. de Bougainville, who discovered it in its native Brazil. -ja)

The sunset is at Maili beach park, just a few blocks away from Grandma's house. I took in my ride from Grandma's house to Baldwin's house in Pearl City. I'm at the beach in Haleiwa, on the North shore, looking back towards Kaena point.

Some pics are from Kealia trail, which is located around Kaena point, over looking the North shore of Oahu. It is about a 25 mile round trip from Grandma's house. The pic of me and my bike is taken from the shelter at the top of the trail.

The Manana Trail, it was burned a few years back, so portions of the trail are like green ribbons on narrow ridges, winding through steep hill sides of burnt trees.

For those of you tired of all the workout pictures, here are some very nice tourist pics. On my trip around town, I stopped at 'Iolani Palace, the statue of King Kamehameha, and took a lovely picture of a hibiscus along the bike path. I'm getting pretty good with this lil' camera, don't you think?

(Statue of King Kamehameha, meaning "the one set apart" or "the lonely one". This King was considered one of Hawai'i's Heros because he united all the islands. June 11th is a public holiday to celebrate the memory of this legendary leader. -ja)

I spent yesterday on my bike, riding all over Honolulu. I stopped at the beach at Ala Moana and got some ono (good) ride food: spam and rice. (Musubi is almost like a variation of sushi but it does not have the rice vinegar that is used in sushi. Spam and rice is sandwiched between a piece of nori (dry seaweed) and usually eaten as a snack. Sometimes you can get it at the Asian celebration in Eugene. I second that, it's ono. -ja)

Earlier in the day, I rode thru a tunnel into the crater of Diamond Head.

I rode up Tantalus dr., a 5 mile climb above the city, from there you can see Diamond Head crater, with Waikiki to the right, and Punchbowl crater, which contains a cemetary for those who died during WW II.

Uncle and I went to the North Shore to hit the surf as the sun came up. It was one of the most beautiful days that I have yet had here. Haleuwa, on Oahu's North Shore, it is the Moab of surfing. The waves were a bit big for me, but I did manage to catch one or two. As the sun came up, they were hosting a long board master's international championship. Uncle and I went and got some local style take out and sat at the beach, eating breakfast and watching the competition.

I was quite happy of the self-portrait with the waterfall in the background, reflecting the sunlight, neat-o! Apparently, the pic with the tiny purple flower depicts a plant that has medicinal uses for the native Hawaiians; I did elect to NOT eat it at this time. There was an old climbing rope spanning the chasm at the base of the falls. I gave it a look, and since my Mom wasn't around to stop me, I scooted to the center of the chasm and hung by one arm and snapped a photo.

Me running along the grassy ridge. This was fun, beautiful afternoon sunlight and warm temps. Some of these pictures were taken by hanging my camera in a tree, sketchy, but effective. I went running behind Uncle's house to Waimano Falls. The trail, if can call it that, is steep and rutted covered with rocks and roots in places. There are ropes in spots that you use to get up and down the really nasty bits.
