Tamolitch Pool and Clear Lake

We had an outstanding weekend. We drove up Highway 126 to the Cascades and hiked to the Tamolitch Pool also known as the Blue Pool. It's an incredible bit of nature. Above the pool is a dried waterfall. It is actually part of the McKenzie River. The water flows for three miles underground seeping through volcanic rock and coming above ground to form a turquoise pool. It is said to be turquoise because of the minerals in the water. We decided to hike over the dry waterfall and down to take dip. The average temperature of the water is a cold 38 degrees...and it was cold!

After our brisk swim we traveled to Clear Lake and took a rowboat around the lake. Clear Lake was created 3,000 years ago due to volcanic activity and is well known for it's underwater petrified forest. Typically there is 100-200 feet of visibility and the average temperature is 43 degrees. We jumped off the rowboat and took another swim!

Big Love, JA

PS Refresh the screen a couple of times b/c some of the photos of Clear Lake aren't making the loop!
